Wakefield v Huddersfield: Squads Announced

Wakefield and Huddersfield have both announced their 21-man squads for Thursday evening’s fixture at the John Smith’s Stadium (KO 3:00pm).

The game was postponed in March as Trinity and the Giants were involved in the Challenge Cup fifth round, however with both teams now having been knocked out it has given them the opportunity to play the fixture this weekend.

In the league, neither side has been able to register a win since the restart, with Huddersfield coming the closest with three of their defeats coming by just one point.

One of those came last week as they fell to a 13-12 loss against Leeds, while Wakefield pushed Hull FC close but were eventually beaten 26-23.

Wakefield Trinity

Eddie Battye is in line to make his Trinity debut after signing on loan from London Broncos earlier this week. He is one of five changes made by Chris Chester, who also welcomes back Kyle Wood, James Batchelor, Adam Tangata and Jack Croft. Innes Senior is among those to drop out, with the winger being unable to play against his parent club.

21-man squad: 3 Bill Tupou, 4 Reece Lyne, 5 Ben Jones-Bishop, 9 Kyle Wood, 13 Joe Westerman, 14 Jay Pitts, 15 Craig Kopczak, 16 James Batchelor, 18 Adam Tangata, 19 Jordy Crowther, 21 Max Jowitt, 23 Josh Wood, 24 Jack Croft, 29 Ryan Hampshire, 30 Yusuf Aydin, 31 Connor Bailey, 36 Kelepi Tanginoa, 37 Romain Navarrete, 38 Liam Kay, 39 Tony Gigot, 41 Eddie Battye.

Huddersfield Giants

Adam O’Brien’s neck injury suffered against Leeds last week rules him out of Simon Woolford’s side, with youngster Reiss Butterworth recalled in his place. The 21-year-old will likely compete with Tom Holmes for the starting hooker berth. Elsewhere, fellow rookie Owen Trout keeps his spot, as does Chris McQueen, who made his debut against the Rhinos after signing from the NRL.

21-man squad: 1 Ashton Golding, 2 Jermaine McGillvary, 3 Jake Wardle, 4 Jordan Turner, 5 Darnell McIntosh, 7 Aidan Sezer, 8 James Gavet, 10 Suaia Matagi, 11 Kenny Edwards, 12 Joe Wardle, 13 Michael Lawrence, 14 Matty English, 21 Leroy Cudjoe, 22 Tom Holmes, 23 Oliver Russell, 24 Louis Senior, 26 Sam Hewitt, 27 Sam Wood, 30 Reiss Butterworth, 32 Owen Trout, 34 Chris McQueen.
