Following the conclusion of the Challenge Cup quarter-finals, a number of players will face a nervous wait to see if their actions have been picked up by the Match Review Panel.
Given that there were only four ties this weekend as opposed to the usual seven, the disciplinary committee will be less busy than most weeks but there are still some key men awaiting their fate to see if they will get a charge.
Starting with the St Helens v Catalans Dragons game from Friday night, French prop Julian Bousquet was sin-binned for a late hit on a Saints man.
Bousquet was sent for 10 minutes and in that time the home side crossed through Owen Dagnall, though the eventual winners were already winning 20-0 at that stage so it didn’t really affect the outcome.
Another sin-bin this weekend saw Warrington winger Josh Thewlis sat down for 10 after he intentionally delayed a Leigh Leopards restart.
Boss Sam Burgess was careful in his verdict of that yellow card, but the positive for Warrington is that Thewlis isn’t expected to pick up any disciplinary points for his actions.
Jack Hughes caught Marc Sneyd late from a kick in the opening few minutes. Albert Hopoate actually managed to get the ball down from Sneyd’s kick, but the centre was deemed offside and the try was disallowed.
Elsewhere, Sunday’s BBC game saw Jazz Tevaga yellow carded for a deliberate kick on Liam Marshall. Arguments can be made that the forward should have seen red, but it will be interesting to see the verdict the Match Review Panel make this week.
Tevaga kicked out at Marshall due to his leg being stuck under the tackle, and once he was free was in clear pain. Wigan half-back Harry Smith pushed an injured Tevaga on the floor, so he is another that could be in trouble ahead of Super League round eight.
Also in that game Sam Walters looked to get away with a head butt on Trinity’s Jay Pitts. It was missed by referee Liam Moore, however the replays showed Walters move his head towards the Wakefield veteran, and that could land him with a charge.
