Wakefield Trinity will be looking to claim their first win in three when they host Super League champions Wigan Warriors on Friday night.
Daryl Powell’s side have lost their last two in Super League, with defeats coming to Leeds Rhinos and Leigh Leopards and they’ll expect an improved performance against the Cherry and Whites.
Matt Peet will keen to see a better showing from his side, too, given they were very nearly on the wrong end of one of the biggest shocks of the season so far last time out at Huddersfield Giants. A late Jack Farrimond try spared the Warriors’ blushes on that occasion and Wigan will be looking to make Friday a lot more comfortable.
The inclusions of Bevan French and Luke Thompson might just help Wigan get over the line this week, with the pair returning from their respective injuries. French missed last week due to a calf complaint, while Luke Thompson has missed Wigan’s last two with a rib injury.
Whether they’ll be fit enough to play remains to be seen but their inclusion in the squad is most certainly a positive for the Warriors. French was included in the squad last week, of course, and that means Peet has made just one change ahead of this week, with Harvey Makin being the unfortunate man to make way for Thompson.
Wakefield boss Powell has named an unchanged 21 for the clash, but there’s no guarantee he’ll name the same 17, particularly given the way his side lost to Leigh Leopards on Sunday.
As such, Cam Scott, Seth Nikotemo, Jayden Myers and Lachlan Walmsley will all be pushing to return to the fold this week with Powell having plenty to think about.
