Wakefield Trinity to make space to bring in Wigan Warriors players

Wakefield Trinity have agreed a relationship with Wigan Warriors ahead of the new season.

The two clubs have agreed a dual registration agreement which will allow Wakefield to utilise Wigan stars throughout the 2024 season.

This could see former players like Ryan Hampshire and Sam Eseh return to the club on a frequent basis next year.

Wakefield are set to make room for these players despite the fact they are in the market for two more forward signings at prop and second-row.

Powell explained how the club will create space for Wigan stars: “We’ve got a dual registration deal with Wigan next year so I need to make sure that, well not make sure that but there needs to be space for that but almost because you want to be able to make sure that both teams get what they need from it.

“They’ve got some quality young players, I think they’ve got 12 middle players next year so that’s deep, that. It’ll be as deep as anybody else. So we need to use those players for the benefit of both.”

The club may be focused on enhancing their squad in 2024, they have also been giving back to the community. In a heartwarming gesture this holiday season, Gary Spencer, Chairman of the Wakefield Trinity Past Players Association, and Lee Robinson, Secretary, embarked on a special mission.

They visited several of the club’s legends to extend holiday greetings and deliver hampers as a token of gratitude. More than just seasonal wishes, these hampers were also for the wives of these players, acknowledging their support and contributions over the years.

The Wakefield Trinity Past Players Association has seen significant growth in the past three years. It has become a vibrant community where former players reconnect, share memories, and rekindle old friendships.

The association organises numerous functions throughout the year, fostering a strong sense of camaraderie and belonging among former teammates.

These gatherings offer a wonderful opportunity for ex-players to reminisce about their times at the club and to stay connected with the Wakefield Trinity family.

A fantastic gesture from the club who are a growing force.
