As they prepare for their huge clash with Wigan Warriors, Wakefield Trinity were likely quietly confident after their brilliant win over Salford Red Devils and the form of former Leeds Rhinos, Hull FC and Castleford Tigers star Luke Gale.
Gale left Hull FC at the end of 2022 after a poor season from the Black and Whites which ended with a shock defeat to 16 man Hull KR. He made the surprise move to Keighley Cougars but eventually the former Man of Steel was parachuted in to save Wakefield Trinity’s season however it took him weeks to debut due to a groin injury.
Eventually he made his debut for Hull KR a week after Wakefield picked up their first win of the season at the expense of Leeds Rhinos.
It was a hard fought battle but Wakefield came up short. However, in his home debut Gale linked masterfully with Will Dagger and Max Jowitt to tear apart Salford.
This gave the West Yorkshire club real hope of survival and confidence ahead of the visit of the Challenge Cup holders.
However that hope and confidence has been dampened with reports that Gale has suffered a broken leg that could rule him out for the season.
These reports appear to be true with Gale left out of their squad for Friday’s game.
