Wakefield Trinity have submitted plans for further redevelopment of their home ground, Belle Vue.
There has already been significant changes to the stadium in recent years, including a completely new East Stand, with the old one demolished and replaced with a new one, increasing the stadium’s capacity by around 1,600, with the council investing almost £9 million in the redevelopment.
After earning a spot in Super League by gaining a brilliant Grade A on the IMG grading system, they’ll want to consolidate their place in the division with further improvements under owner Matt Ellis.
Now, it seems that they’re close to further improvements, with a planning application received by Wakefield Council on Monday 18th November.
Wakefield Trinity submit construction plan amidst stadium redevelopment
The plans submitted to Wakefield Council would include a new TV gantry and studio, as well as a new roof over the terraced West Stand.
There would be a staircase to the TV and media facilities, and potentially a relocated bar in an existing roofed section, as well as cladding to the rear of existing and proposed covered areas.
Almost all of the public comments under the application were in favour of the proposals at the time of writing, with one suggesting: “It is crucial for Wakefield Council to grant permission for Wakefield Trinity’s proposed new roofing on the West Stand terrace to ensure the club’s continued growth and contribution to the community.
“This improvement is vital for attracting new supporters, increasing the club’s appeal, and securing its future in the heart of Wakefield.”
Of the 57 comments at the time of writing, only two objected, with one saying: “As someone that lives on Regent Street at the back of the rugby ground and already finds the new building work has had a detrimental effect on our lives, I can only imagine what fresh hell awaits us.”
