Wakefield Trinity star set to join Super League club ahead of 2024

Leeds Rhinos Head Coach Rohan Smith has pulled off some outstanding signings ahead of the new 2024 season as he looks for a big season moving forward.

However, there has still been speculation that the Rhinos could still add a further signing to their ranks namely Lee Kershaw.

The winger has been linked with a move to Headingley since his release and he has been training with the Rhinos but has not signed for them and won’t unless someone else leaves the club.

So, he will not be making the move to Leeds but Serious About Rugby League understands that the winger is set to join a different Super League club with the likes of Leigh Leopards, Hull FC and Salford Red Devils linked with the winger.

But what about Leeds? Smith is building for the opening round to start the season and is very pleased with his young players who will likely be the backups and not Kershaw.

Smith said after the Boxing Day game: “Well, I just don’t think, you know, round one is one thing. Everyone wants to be ready for round one, but, you know, over the course of the season, you need a squad. So there’ll be some good players missing out in round one, but, you know, they might play in round two. So in our forwards, there’s going to be some real competition there. In the backs, we’re young. In our backup players, we’re very young and inexperienced. In our backup players, in the backs, which will provide opportunity for young kids as we go. But it’s a little bit of a different dynamic to last year there, but our first choice sort of back line is pretty much there already.

“Yeah, we were an extremely young team there at the back end, very, very young. We had Darrell and a few others were doing little bits and pieces there, but I think, but aside from that they were 21 and under, which is good, it’s good signs. I thought most of the young kids got out there and just showed what they could do. They were quite conservative with how they played, but that’s the way that they needed to get started, just good solid game and they can build off that and let their bodies grow and this time next year they could be in a different position, some of those kids.”
