After securing their return to Super League, Wakefield Trinity are continuing to develop their stadium ahead of the 2025 season.
Trinity suffered relegation in 2023 but they soared back to Super League after a resounding 2024 season that saw them excel both on and off the field.
On the field, newly-appointed coach Daryl Powell led his team to a near-flawless season as Trin lost just twice in all competitions – once in the Challenge Cup and once in the league.
As such, they lifted the 1895 Cup, League Leaders Shield and most recently the Championship Grand Final. Partnering those impressive on-field results with the IMG points accrued off-field for things such as investment and stadium development meant the club achieved Grade A status.
That propelled them into Super League and the club are showing no sign of regressing as they have already commissioned further development to their ground, as confirmed on social media this week.
Wakefield Trinity to extend ground ahead of Hull KR clash
Developments to Belle Vue in 2024 saw the capacity increase by 1,600 and the stadium’s modernity leap forward decades but the club aren’t stopped there, as previously confirmed by owner Matt Ellis.
In November, plans were submitted for a new TV gantry and studio with a roof to be erected over the terraced West Stand, however, work has now begun on the South Stand for a different project.
Sports Ground Development LTD took to X, formerly Twitter, to confirm that they had received an order to build a terrace in front of the South Stand at the stadium. They also confirmed an ambitious timeline for when that development will be in place.
Attaching an image of where the terrace will be built, they posted: “A foray into Rugby League as we receive an order from @WTrinityRL to put 36m of open terracing to the front of the south hospitality stand with 9 steps or 400mm depth before their opening home @SuperLeague
fixture v @hullkrofficial on Feb 20th – our 4th Q1 2025 development.”
It’s yet another change that will help Wakefield Trinity establish themselves on their return to Super League with Grand Finalists Hull KR set to visit them for their first home game of 2025.
Sports Ground Development LTD had previously worked at Belle Vue as they installed additional press tables and seats at the stadium. They’ll now begin work on the new terrace which is set to first hold fans in two months time when Trinity host KR.
