Wakefield Trinity have tied down one of their star players in the hope that it will prevent him from being ‘poached’ by a ‘big club’.
The newest Super League club have secured Isaiah Vagana on a three-year extension until the end of the 2027 season with the forward being the latest player to commit their future to Trinity.
The 24-year-old joined from NZ Warriors at the start of 2024, and despite a hand injury keeping him out for four months of the campaign, made 11 RFL Championship appearances, being thrown straight back in for the final rounds of the regular season and for the play-off campaign.
He follows his father Joe Vagana in being part of a Super League squad, as the former Bradford Bulls man was a star when the club were a Super League powerhouse.
Wakefield Trinity sign star forward to lengthy deal to ward off ‘big clubs’
Isaiah Vagana said, via a club statement: “I’ve loved my time at the club.
“The coaches, staff, players and fans have welcomed me with open arms and made this place feel like home.
“We had a great year this year and have done the work to get back into Super League.
“The club is in a great position and has a bright future ahead and I want to be here for it so when the club offered me an opportunity to extend my time here I couldn’t say no.”
Recruitment Manager, Ste Mills added: “As a club, we feel this is a big retention, Isaiah has everything you want in a big powerful forward who can play on an edge too.
“He’s only going to keep getting better and it’s great to see him & his family decide to settle down in the UK and take his game to a whole new level. This is potentially a player in the past that big clubs would come and poach, however this time we wanted to make sure he’s going nowhere.
“I’m sure he will become a huge fans favourite once we start to see him unleash his potential.”
