Wakefield Trinity forward Caius Faatili has provided an injury update after he missed out in the win over Huddersfield Giants on Sunday.
Faatili was one of two changes to Daryl Powell’s line-up, with both him and Kian McGann dropping out from the previous week’s win over Hull FC.
In their place came Tray Lolesio and Will Tate, who both performed well in the 29-23 win.
Faatili, who joined the club at the beginning of the 2025 season, has now revealed what his issue was, and why he was the one member of the forward pack to miss out.
“Just my ankle. It’s been playing up for about a month now,” he said at a Magic Weekend media event this week.
“It’s not too bad. They just gave me a wee rest yesterday. I think they were probably expecting for a little bit of an easy win, but Huddersfield really brought it to us yesterday, and we struggled a bit, but it was good to get the win.”
The enforcer was sat on the sidelines watching his teammates look for that last-gasp winner, which they did through Josh Rourke, who intercepted Oliver Russell’s pass before breaking away to score the winner.
“It was a struggle to watch, really. I was getting a bit of itchy feet. I had the boots on ready to go!
“I think we started well. We started really well, and then Huddersfield really fought back and they got a good couple of tries.
“I think if we could have put them to the sword early and put them to bed, but they came back fighting and they were good throughout the game, so we were lucky to pip them in the end.”
Huddersfield’s Russell went from hero to zero in a matter of minutes, with his drop goal levelling in the game at 23-23 before a wayward and needless pass sent Rourke in for his second of the game.
Faatili was asked if he feels sorry for his former teammate, who was visibly distressed after the game.
“It’s just a game of footy,” he replied. “We were just happy with the two points.
“I feel a bit sorry for Olly. He went from a big high to throwing that intercept, which is just unlucky.
“I feel for Olly, he’s an awesome player, and you’ve seen that when he had that drop goal. Only a certain amount of players could have done that, but yeah, unlucky for him.”
