Wakefield Trinity head of physiotherapy Matt Crowther has issued an injury update on his squad, including signing Tom Johnstone.
Young half-back Myles Lawford is nursing an ACL injury, and Crowther said, speaking to club media: “You’re looking between six and nine months, and normally with the young kids, we take them close to the nine months.
“But he’s doing really well, and I think we put our sights on somewhere around April/May for him.
“It depends on how the return to play goes.”
In addition, Isaac Shaw picked up an injury in August, and Crowther said: “He had one of the top surgeons that did the job with him again and he’s flying at the minute.
“So he’s done a couple of team sessions, modified obviously, but he’s back in and I expect him to be back in full training in the next week or two.”
Meanwhile, on Josh Griffin, he said: “Yeah, unfortunately Josh ruptured his adductor in our semi, which required surgery.
“He’s just really sat at home recovering from his surgery that he hadd done down in London from a specialist and then we can start his rehabilitation next week.
“It’s usually around three months, four months in a game like ours with rugby league. Again, he’s got to pass all his markers to get back so we’ll see how he goes.”
Wakefield Trinity injury update – Tom Johnstone
The big worry for fans, however, is surely with Tom Johnstone, who missed much of the 2024 season after sustaining an injury against Castleford Tigers.
Crowther may be able to reassure some fans, as he said: “Spent a bit of time with Tom this last month and he’s doing really well.
“So he’ll be back running on the machine this week, back end of the week, and then his transition to the field will come in the next few weeks.
“So you wouldn’t expect him to be much longer than after Christmas, sort of returning to the field and hopefully starting the season.”
