Wakefield Trinity have filled their overseas quota spots with the signing of a powerful forward from Down Under.
Daryl Powell’s side were one of a handful of Super League clubs with a quota spot left following their release of Luke Bain, however, they have now filled that final spot with this signing.
Trinity have signed prop forward Caius Faatili from Queensland Cup side Sunshine Coast Falcons with the 23-year-old being the 12th signing that Wakefield have made upon returning to the Super League.
Faatili has signed on a one-year deal and is expected to arrive in the UK in the next week meaning that he could be available for selection for Wakefield’s Round One clash with Leeds Rhinos.
Whilst playing for the Sunshine Coast Falcons in 2024, Faatili scored eight tries in his 22 appearances with Wakefield describing him as a “powerful runner” and a player who regularly tops the tackle bust charts.
Wakefield Trinity sign overseas forward
Wakefield confirmed the news of Faatili’s signing via their website and social media with the 23-year-old commenting on his move to Trinity in a club statement.
He said: “I’m looking forward to getting over to Wakefield as soon as possible now that I have signed. I’m excited to see where the club can get to now that they’re back in Super League and I’m looking forward to being a part of that journey.
“I’ve heard a lot about the Wakefield fans and I can’t wait to play in front of a packed out crowd.”
Head Coach, Daryl Powell added: “We are delighted Caius has agreed to join us. He fits into our recruitment strategy of young ambitious overseas players.
“We think we have found another quality addition in Caius who’s leg speed and aggressive ball carrying will add another dimension to our pack. We look forward to welcoming Caius in the near future as we close in on the start of the season.”
“Recruitment Manager, Ste Mills said: “After an extensive search we are delighted to bring in Caius into our already strong forward pack. He’s a little bit different to what we already have and we fully believe he will compliment our squad nicely.
“He’s a young, hungry, ambitious player who is willing to come to the UK to make a big impact on his career and in Super League. We are all looking forward to seeing Caius play in the Red, White & Blue.”
