Wakefield Trinity have been dealt an injury blow as they prepare for this Saturday’s Championship Grand Final against Toulouse Olympique. The West Yorkshire outfit claimed their place in the final on Sunday afternoon with a hard fought 22-13 win over York Knights.
However, it seems the win came at a price, with Josh Griffin picking up an injury that will see him ruled out of the Championship finale next weekend. Wakefield are looking to complete a treble, having already won the 1895 Cup and the Championship League Leaders’ trophy and Griffin has been instrumental for the club this season.
The back-rower has scored 18 tries in all competitions for Wakefield this season and started the game against York, but couldn’t finish the contest due to injury.
“Gutted is an understatement,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “To stay injury-free all season and then get injured in a semi-final and miss the final is a tough pill to swallow. But I’ll look forward to watching the boys finish the job and get the club back to where it deserves to be.”
Wakefield have been the dominant side in the second tier this season and due to their superior IMG grading they are expected to be promoted to Super League for 2025 whether they win the Grand Final or not.
However, they will still be keen to end the season in style as they take on Toulouse, who edged their way past Bradford Bulls in the south of France.
The game will take place at the DIY Kitchens Stadium in Wakefield this Saturday (October 19) at 7pm, with Trinity setting prices low to try and attract a full house. Adult tickets can be bought for as little as £12, while juniors are £5.
