Wakefield Trinity coach Danny Kirmond has signed a new four-year contract extension with the club.
Daryl Powell and Michael Shenton signed similar deals in August, keeping them at the club until the end of the 2029 season, and Kirmond’s contract is now in line with that.
Kirmond has been working as a coach at Wakefield since hanging up his boots and retiring as a player at the end of the 2023 season. The Wakefield-born 40-year-old spent nine seasons with the club as a player, with spells coming at Featherstone Rovers and Huddersfield Giants prior to making the switch permanently.
And, including a brief loan spell in 2010, he made 173 appearances in Wakefield colours, scoring 46 tries along the way. He brought the curtain down on his career with a three-season stint at York Knights before returning to the club where he is considered to be a crowd favourite.
“I’m excited to get the deal over the line and the news that I will be at the club long term out there,” Kirmond told the Wakefield Trinity site.
“I’m super happy to have my contract in line with Daryl Powell and Michael Shenton’s. Having consistency within the coaching staff is something that is really important for a club and helps with player development as they develop a trust within the staff and build confidence with the coaches.
Director of rugby Ste Mills added: “I’m really pleased Danny has re-signed with the club. He brings great energy, and a genuine passion for Wakefield Trinity to the coaching group. He’s a big part of what we’re building, and I’m delighted he’s staying with us. It was important for us to bring him in line with Daryl and Michael’s contracts creating real stability in our coaching setup.”
