Wakefield Trinity have confirmed the exit of one of the club’s overseas quota players just a month prior to the launch of the 2025 Super League season.
Trinity are returning to Super League after a year spent in the Championship following their relegation at the end of 2023 but the club have now confirmed the release of a key member of their squad.
Wakefield have confirmed that 24-year-old forward Luke Bain has left the club with immediate effect in a mutual agreement with the Australian returning Down Under.
The club confirmed that news with a brief statement posted on their X, formerly Twitter, account.
That statement read: “Wakefield Trinity can confirm that Luke Bain has left the club in a mutual agreement that will see him return home to Australia.
“We’d like to thank Luke for all his efforts and wish him well.”

It’s a major factor to lose a player less than a month before the season starts but in Bain’s case, it is also the loss of an overseas player – of which each Super League club can only have seven.
So whilst Wakefield Trinity have now freed up a quota spot, they will perhaps have difficulty to fill it at such late notice. They join both Huddersfield Giants and Leigh Leopards are clubs with an available overseas quota spot.
Scotland international Bain leaves Wakefield Trinity after just one season that saw him play just 12 games as he struggled with injury.
He had initially joined the club in November 2023 ahead of the 2024 season with the forward signing a two-year deal. That meant that the 24-year-old was out of contract at the end of the upcoming 2025 season but his exit has come earlier.
Bain had been handed the number 22 shirt when Wakefield Trinity confirmed their shirt numbers back in December. He did not feature in the club’s Boxing Day friendly against Leeds Rhinos.
