Wakefield Trinity have followed in the footsteps of Castleford Tigers in confirming an end of year pre-season friendly against Featherstone Rovers.
The Tigers will meet the Rovers on New Year’s Eve but two days before that Sean Long’s Rovers will take on Wakefield at 2pm as Trinity prepare for their new era under Mark Applegarth and James Ford in 2023.
Featherstone have a number of Super League opponents lined up as part of their preparations into the 2023 season.
As aforementioned, they’ll meet Castleford as well as Leeds Rhinos. The will also meet Craig Hall’s former club Hull KR in the fullback’s testimonial.
This is all part of former Leeds Rhinos assistant coach Sean Long’s preparations for the new era at Post Office Road which has seen him sign the likes of Chris Hankinson and Mathieu Cozza from Toulouse Olympique and Catalans Dragons respectively.
As for Wakefield, they will also meet Leeds in a pre-season friendly as they always do.
However, this time the fixture won’t take place on Boxing Day but rather on the 27th December due to Leeds United’s battle with Premier League Champions Manchester City on Boxing Day at Elland Road.
If the rumours are true that Kevin Proctor will be coming to Wakefield, these fixtures could be an early chance to see the former NRL Champion and Kiwi international star in a Wakefield shirt after he reportedly signed a “very lucrative deal” with the club.
Wakefield are expected to make a number of other signings with three other quota spots to use.
