Wakefield Trinity has again shown its ambition by announcing the signing of a rising NRL star on a three-year deal.
That man is Gold Coast Titans’ 20-year-old Seth Nikotemo with both the NRL club and Wakefield Trinity confirming the Queensland Under 20’s arrival at the Championship League Leaders Shield winners.
It’s highly expected that Wakefield Trinity will be back in Super League and a signing such as this underlines that intent, particularly given they’ve offered Nikotemo a three-year deal. He/s one of several high-profile signings that the club have made.
Both clubs announced the move via their social media.
A statement from the Titans read: “The Titans can confirm Seth Nikotemo has been granted an early release to pursue an opportunity in the English Super League.
“Having been part of the Gold Coast’s development roster in 2023 and 2024, the 20-year-old will join Wakefield Trinity – currently part of the English Championship.
“The Titans wish Seth all the best in his future endeavours and thank him for his contribution during his time at the club.”
Wakefield Trinity confirm signing of “highly-rated” NRL player
Trinity had launched a statement themselves about securing the back-rower who becomes yet another addition in an already impressive recruitment window.
Wakefield have signed the likes of Tom Johnstone and Mike McMeeken from Catalans Dragons, whilst other Super League recruits include Cam Scott, Olly Russell, Jake Trueman and Corey Hall, and now Trinity they’ve taken their recruitment overseas.
Announcing the arrival of Nikotemo, Trin shared a statement that read: “Wakefield Trinity have secured the services of exciting youngster Seth Nikotemo from the start of the 2025 season on a three-year deal!
“The 20-year old back-rower will add to an impressive recruitment class from the men in Red, White and Blue ready for the 2025 season, joining Mike McMeeken, Tom Johnstone, Jake Trueman and Olly Russell amongst others.
“Highly regarded in Australia, Nikotemo has represented Queensland at a number of junior representative levels and was named in Gold Coast Titans’ top 30 in 2024.”
What they said as Trin sign “high-quality” youngster
Nikotemo is yet to debut in the NRL but he has experience representing Queensland at junior levels which showcases what a talent he is.
On signing for Trinity, Nikotemo said: “I’m extremely excited for this new journey, it’s a massive move for myself being young but I already feel very welcomed by the staff I have spoken with. Wakefield seems like the perfect fit for me and I can’t wait to meet the boys and get settled into the club.”
Wakefield Head Coach, Daryl Powell said: “We are delighted to add Seth to the squad for the next three seasons. He’s a high-quality young back rower with power and punch in his attacking game adding to an uncompromising defensive game. After speaking to him I’m confident he will fit in perfectly with the way we want to play and I’m looking forward to him coming over to both take his game to the next level and add to the high quality squad we are putting together.”
