Wakefield Trinity confirm key re-signing after Super League return

Wakefield Trinity have moved to tie down one of their star players after their promotion to Super League was confirmed by the IMG grades.

After being relegated to the Championship after a poor showing in 2023, Trinity dominated the 2024 campaign as they lost just twice all season on their way to the treble of the 1895 Cup, League Leaders Shield and Championship Grand Final.

However, with the 2025 season being the first in which IMG grades determined the composition of Super League, the club’s on-field performance wasn’t guaranteed to get them back into the top flight.

But their massive off-field gains in Finances, Stadium, and Fandom were enough for Wakefield Trinity earn Grade A status and therefore a guaranteed spot in Super League, something they’ve now celebrated with the contract extension of one of their star players.

Teased as a ‘Halloween Treat’, Trinity have now confirmed that Caleb Uele will extend his stay in Wakefield until the end of the 2027 season.

Uele signed for Trinity ahead of the 2024 season and had already moved to extend his contract for the 2025 season but they’ve now gone even further, locking him down as a Wakefield player until the end of 2027.

That was confirmed by the club in a statement released by the club. It read: “Caleb Uele has extended his stay at Wakefield Trinity signing a new three-year deal until the end of the 2027 season!

“Having already had his contract extended for the 2025 season, Trinity have moved quickly to keep the talented prop forward longer term after an impressive first year in the Red, White and Blue.

“Uele appeared in 29 games helping the club lift the 1895 Cup, Championship League Leaders Shield and topple Toulouse in the Championship Grand Final.

“The 25-year old will be looking to continue his form as he steps up along with Wakefield into Super League and test himself in the top flight of English Rugby League.”

Speaking on his new deal, the Auckland-born prop said: “Firstly, thank you God! I’m really grateful for Powelly, the coaching staff, and Millsy for giving me an opportunity at this great club. I’m very excited for what the next three years will bring. Thank you to all the fans for welcoming me with open arms!”

Trinity Head Coach Daryl Powell said: “Caleb has had an outstanding first season at Wakefield and I am confident he will be an outstanding Super League player. We all have the challenge to step up next season and everything I’ve seen from Caleb, his ability to carry the ball, his defence and work rate are all key reasons why I have huge confidence in him. On top of that he is a great bloke and professional. Great news for our squad he has agreed to stay”
