Wakefield Trinity confirm departure of duo on short-term deals

Wakefield Trinity

Barrow Raiders have confirmed that Wakefield Trinity forward Sam Eseh has joined the club on a two-week loan deal, while centre Jack Croft has also extended his stay.

Eseh, a powerful front-rower, was handed his first professional contract by Trinity ahead of the 2021 season, and was named in their 21-man squad for the first time against Hull FC in April that year.

Standing at 6’4, the former East Leeds amateur was given squad number 25 ahead of the current Super League campaign but has only featured for the club’s Reserves team in 2022.

Meanwhile, Croft arrived at the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium on an initial two-week loan deal on April 8.

The young centre played in the Raiders’ recent 23-22 victory over Bradford Bulls at Odsal, as well as the club’s Good Friday defeat to league leaders Featherstone Rovers.

Croft has made 10 appearances for the Wakefield first team, as well as gaining a small amount of Betfred Championship experience with Oldham over recent seasons.

The pair could both feature in Sunday’s trip to Halifax Panthers.

On the capture of Eseh, Andy Gaffney, Barrow Raiders director of rugby, said: “Sam is a big strong impact forward who comes in with some great recommendations.

“He comes in from a great environment at Wakefield, and I would like to thank Michael Carter [Wakefield Trinity chairman] and head coach Willie Poching for making these players available to us.”
