Wakefield Trinity head coach Willie Poching was, understandably, unhappy with the way his side lost out to Castleford Tigers in a ferocious derby clash at Belle Vue.

Trinity were second best for the whole of the fixture, going down 14-0 at half-time before Castleford added to their neighbours’ woe with two more tries in the second forty minutes.

For Poching, the game was lost in one area.

“It was disappointing, we were clearly second best tonight in a lot of areas,” Poching said.

“They were fantastic and gave us a bit of a lesson tonight and one we have to earn from and quickly.

“The biggest lesson is our composure, when we lose a bit of ascendancy, we crashed.

“There were a few moments where we lost our way and turned possession over cheaply – we tried to wrestle some field position back when Max Jowitt came close but we turned it back over to them again.”

Poching didn’t want to use the argument of a short turnaround – Wakefield played Sunday whilst Castleford played Friday.

“We came into this game feeling quite fresh and good – we had one training session where we looked sharp and good.

“We had a pretty good grasp of some of the plans we had to apply, but we didn’t quite get started in the way we wanted to.

“It just hurts, the scoreline hurts, the performance hurts.”

The Trinity boss suggested that a number of players would come into the side.

“We have to go again, we have a recovery session tomorrow and we will check up on people, but there are people waiting in the wings for a shot.”
