Wakefield Trinity boss Willie Poching gives retention and recruitment update

Wakefield succumbed to a seventh loss in a row last night and it’s safe to say the ground beneath their feet is beginning to shrink with a shark named Toulouse beneath the surface ready to pounce should Trinity continue to slip up.

Making those on field matters more difficult is the off field rumours linking plenty of their star players with moves away from Belle Vue.

Tom Johnstone is perhaps the highest profile name set to leave Wakefield at the end of this year with a move to Catalans Dragons all but confirmed.

Elsewhere, Jacob Miller is thought to be heading to Castleford Tigers as Jake Trueman’s replacement whilst Mason Lino could be Wigan bound as Thomas Leuluai’s replacement.

On this, after the game Wakefield Trinity boss Willie Poching said that they can’t let the rumours affect them: “It goes on and I don’t want to get into it too much but it’s the nature of the game and it’s that time of year.

“We’ll do our best to retain the ones that we want and at the moment it is speculation. Rumours are from outside sources so we can’t let it affect us.”

He did also hint that Wakefield are speaking to a few players and are prepared to replace those stars who may leave: “We’re down the line and talking to people. We’ll see when people go, you get the opportunity to replace them. It’s a cycle.”
