Wakefield Trinity head coach Daryl Powell hailed his side’s ‘Super League performance’ ahead of their expected return to the competition.
Trinity put on a clinic in front of over 8,000 fans as they swept aside Toulouse Olympique with a 36-0 win to earn the Championship Grand Final and land the treble, capping off an extraordinary season back in the second division.
The only blots on the 2024 campaign came all the way back in March when rivals Featherstone Rovers knocked them out of the Challenge Cup in golden point, as well as an away loss to last night’s opponents Toulouse in France.
Powell had explained that the loss helped serve as motivation for their impressive performance, something he would even label a ‘Super League performance’ when speaking to the camera on The Sportsman Rugby League YouTube channel’s coverage of the game.
The Wakefield Trinity boss argued: “That was a Super League performance today I thought, I thought it was that good that it would challenge a lot of teams. I was really pleased with how we looked in a big game, hopefully, we’ll see a fair few of them in the future.”

In recent years, winning the Championship Grand Final was enough to secure promotion to Super League but Wakefield will have to wait until Wednesday morning when the IMG grades are released to see that confirmed, something that is widely expected.
That’s as a result of London Broncos confirming that they will play in the Championship next season and the fact that Wakefield Trinity are expecting to greatly increase their score, through both performance and off-field measures.
Powell would continue to speak on the great achievement, paying credit to the fans with a crowd of 8,016 turning up to witness the victory.
“They’ve had some tough periods haven’t they, and obviously getting relegated last year is very difficult for any club and support base.
“Matt coming in and the way he talks to us about fans I think is really good. Obviously, he’s a big fan himself and then we have built it up through the years. The support has been great wherever we’ve been whether that is away from home or here.
“Wembley was phenomenal and then tonight was another massive pat on the back of the whole club.”
