The departure of Jacob Miller from Wakefield Trinity has left new boss Mark Applegarth needing to appoint a new skipper for the 2023 Super League season at Belle Vue.
As Miller heads off to Castleford Tigers where he will join Warrington Wolves star Gareth Widdop in the halves at the Jungle, he has left more than one hole at Belle Vue.
Miller has become a piece of the furniture at Wakefield and was at the heart of their team for years including Wakefield’s best ever side in Super League when they finished fifth in consecutive seasons.
He has left a gap in the halves however the club has got Mason Lino and Lee Gaskell already at the club and they have signed former Warrington Wolves, London Broncos and Featherstone Rovers halfback Morgan Smith.
But what about the captaincy armband?
Well Wakefield have confirmed that Matty Ashurst, formerly of St Helens and Salford Red Devils, has taken on the captaincy role after making over 150 appearances for the club.
He will be joined in leading Wakefield by loose-forward Jordy Crowther who came through the system at the club debuting in 2014.
