Wakefield Trinity announce pre-season friendly against Championship side

Wakefield Trinity boss Daryl Powell

Wakefield Trinity have confirmed one last friendly ahead of the new Super League season. Daryl Powell’s side have already been in action once this pre-season, of course, having taken on Leeds Rhinos in the traditional Boxing Day clash at Headingley.

Trinity lost that game 18-16 but it was an encouraging showing from the West Yorkshire outfit and they’ll be looking to build on that in the weeks to come as they prepare for their return to the top flight.

They’ll be in action next on January 24 as Castleford Tigers make the trip to Belle Vue to take part in Luke Gale’s testimonial. However, that game will be the second of three pre-season games for Wakefield with a game against Doncaster being confirmed.

The Championship title holders will make the journey to the Eco-Power Stadium on Sunday, February 2, and Powell will hope to see his side tested with the competitive action just around the corner. Doncaster were beaten comfortably on two occasions by Wakefield last season but after a number of off-season signings they’ll fancy their chances of providing a pre-season shock.

The game comes just a week before Trinity enter the Challenge Cup with a trip to either London Broncos or Goole Vikings scheduled. Wakefield Trinity then go to Headingley once more to get their Super League season underway.

Doncaster, who saw a friendly against a Hull FC second string outfit called off last week, face Sheffield Eagles on home soil in a friendly this weekend. They will then enter the Challenge Cup in the final weekend of January with Richard Horne’s side due to take on Bradford Bulls at Odsal. A home game in the third round against Castleford Tigers is the prize for a win in West Yorkshire.

Doncaster get their Championship season up and running against Featherstone Rovers on February 16.
