Wakefield Trinity and Leigh Leopards men cop bans after latest Super League disciplinary verdict

This week’s Super League disciplinary verdict is in, and two clubs in the play-off spots have been hit with bans.

Those are Leigh Leopards and Wakefield Trinity, who will both have players missing for this week’s game against Castleford Tigers and Wigan Warriors respectively.

The Leopards will be without Jack Hughes this week, after a late hit on Lachie Miller earned him a Grade A charge, and whilst that seems minor, he has now reached five penalty points, putting him over the threshold for a one-match ban.

In fact, four of the nine charges went to Leigh, with hooker Edwin Ipape having two separate charges, both for late hits on Leeds’ Brodie Croft, as referenced in Serious About Rugby League’s article regarding players sweating the MRP.

The other Leigh man charged was Andy Badrock, who has landed a Grade C charge for a hip-drop style tackle on Harry Newman. Post-match, Adrian Lam said the tackle was ‘part of the game’, but the disciplinary committee clearly have a different opinion.

Wakefield’s ban goes to Jazz Tevaga, who also landed a Grade A charge, but previous penalty points take him over the threshold for a one-match suspension. The Samoan international was charged with a late hit on Tristan Sailor.

Fellow Trinity man Caleb Hamlin-Uele has copped a Grade A for head contact, whilst in the same game, St Helens’ Nene MacDonald was given the same charge.

Catalans Dragons skipper Ben Garcia has been issued a Grade B for Dangerous Contact and will need to pay a fine, whilst York’s Ata Hingano was charged with a trip in the club’s defeat to Warrington.
