Wakefield Trinity 4-34 Castleford Tigers: Highlights, player ratings & talking points

Wakefield Trinity took on Castleford Tigers at Belle Vue tonight in a hotly-anticipated West Yorkshire derby.

Both sides had lost their Challenge Cup Quarter-Final last week, but Castleford were in the mood from minute one.

The Tigers led 14-0 at half-time and were in much better form than their opposition.

Highlights

Kenny Edwards’ devastating left-foot step caused havoc in the Wakefield defence on numerous occasions.

Greg Eden scored his 100th try of his second spell Castleford – becoming one of only four Super League men to register 100 tries in under 100 games.

Talking points

1. Adam Milner’s new position

Adam Milner came through the Castleford ranks as a hooker before switching to the loose-forward position to make way for Paul McShane at number 9. With the signing of Joe Westerman, however, Milner again found himself pushed out. Yet, given the number 12 shirt, Milner has secured a new role – to devastating effect. He was sensational at right second-row, making a huge amount of metres and poking holes against Corey Hall.

2. The other second-rower

If Adam Milner was in inspired form then Castleford’s other second-rower, Kenny Edwards, was even better. The former Huddersfield Giants star caused havoc for Trinity throughout the 80 minutes, stepping in off his left foot to run rings around the Wakefield defence.

3. Wakefield’s horrific showing

Castleford were easy winners, scoring five tries, but Wakefield made it easy for them. The home side were dour in effort, execution and attitude with nothing coming off whatsoever. It did not appear to be a derby for Wakefield and head coach Willie Poching will not be happy.
