Wakefield Trinity 19-18 Hull FC: Highlights, player ratings and talking points

Wakefield Trinity took on Hull FC at Belle Vue this afternoon in a rain-soaked affair.

Hull scored three tries in the first-half with Adam Swift crossing twice and Darnell McIntosh getting one, whilst Wakefield replied through Matty Ashurst as the Black and Whites led 18-6 at half-time.

The game looked dead and buried heading into the last quarter, but Trinity scored twice through Corey Hall and Lee Gaskell to level proceedings and send the game into extra-time.

After two missed Luke Gale attempts, Jacob Miller was on hand to hand Trinity a vital two points in the grand scheme of things.

Highlights

Jake Connor again supplying a number of assists with some fine passes.

Matty Ashurst’s try was a great effort, scything through a huge gap with pace.

Wakefield’s young winger Lewis Murphy is getting better with every passing game.

Talking points

1. How may I assist you?

Jake Connor is already Super League’s leading try assister and he registered two more in a fine fullback’s display. The Hull number one must surely be in Shaun Wane’s thinking for the World Cup – he just has to be.

2. Lewis Murphy’s talent

Tom Johnstone may be leaving Wakefield at the end of the season, but Trinity have a ready-made replacement in Lewis Murphy. Equally adept in defence and attack, the young flier seemingly has it all in his locker and was arguably Wakefield’s best player.

3. Connor’s problem

Jake Connor had a stellar game at the back for Hull, but he limped off the field early in the second-half with what looked like a knee injury. Hopefully it is nothing too serious, but he was spotted in a knee brace on the sidelines.

4. Golden Point drama

What a comeback from Wakefield to somehow pull the rabbit out of the hat with 12 minutes to go in the game. Two tries, two conversions and then a drop-goal in extra-time from Jacob Miller sent Trinity home with the two points.
