Wakefield suffer major blow

Matty Ashurst is likely to be out for the rest of the season through injury.

Ashurst suffered a leg injury in Trinity’s 25-18 win at Hull KR last week, with interim head coach Willie Poching confirming the devastating news in his pre-match press conference.

“We don’t know the full extent, but we know it’s pretty bad and it’s looking likely he will miss the rest of the season.

“He has got more scans and has to see a specialist, but he is a big loss for us.”

Wakefield have won two of their three games under interim boss Poching which could be a good sign for the former Trinity forward as the race as to who will be the new head coach hots up.

Ex-Leeds Rhinos and Grand Final boss Brian McDermott has been linked with the role, with York City Knights head coach James Ford and former London Broncos boss Danny Ward also rumoured to have held talks.
