Wakefield secure signing of Salford hooker

Wakefield have confirmed the signing of hooker or scrum-half Josh Wood from Salford on a two-year deal.

The 23-year-old has been part of the Red Devils’ side for the past five years after graduating through their academy, playing almost 50 games for the club.

He’s been limited to just four appearances in 2019, though, with injuries and the form of Logan Tomkins and Joey Lussick keeping him out of the side.

He will now ply his trade for Chris Chester’s side in 2020, plugging the gap left by Tyler Randell, who has returned to Australia.

“I had a disappointing year in 2019 due to a little niggle but I’ve got it all sorted now and I’m ready for a fresh challenge in 2020,” he told the Wakefield website.

“I feel like I’m ready to really kick on with my career now and I hope I can do that at Wakefield.”

Trinity head coach Chris Chester added: “He’s a tough player is Josh and a really nice kid.

“I’m looking forward to seeing him out there. He’s got some decent deception at dummy-half. He’s got a really good kicking game and for his size, he’s a real tough defender.”
