Wakefield to reveal 2018 home venue tomorrow

Wakefield leave Belle Vue

Wakefield CEO Michael Carter has revealed the club will make at least five new signings for 2020.

Wakefield Trinity will announce on Wednesday where they will play their home matches during the 2018 Super League season.

Chairman Michael Carter wants to remain within the borough but there are suggestions of a ground share with Championship outfit Dewsbury Rams.

The club have been pushing for a new stadium in the city and Carter told Sky Sports a fresh proposal was made by the council on Monday, with another meeting planned tomorrow morning.

“We’re due to meet again at 10.30 on Wednesday morning with a view to us going on sale with our season tickets at about 2pm, at which point we’ll be making a decision on where we’re actually playing next year.

“That’s the time-scale we’ve got in mind at this moment in time. There is a lot to consider and, to be honest, I’ve not slept much last night because it’s been praying on my mind ever since we left the meeting.

“Time is now of the essence because I’ve got to get season tickets on sale. That’s fundamental to your cash-flows at this time of year and every other club pretty much has launched theirs.”

Wakefield are under pressure from the RFL to put in suitable plans for the future and Carter has admitted the Council’s proposal came as a surprise.

Despite this, Trinity’s chairman is reluctant to accept any offer until 100 percent sure it is right for the club’s long-term future.

He added: “We’ve stabilised the club and stopped it haemorrhaging cash and the next step is getting our revenues up so that we can spend the full salary cap. I’ve got to make sure the club is going to be here long after I disappear.”
