Wakefield 20-13 Leeds: Player ratings and major talking points

A resurgent Wakefield side continued their good form under interim boss Willie Poching with a West Yorkshire derby win over Leeds.

Major Talking Points:

1. Halfbacks the difference

It became clear early in the second half that Leeds were firmly on the back foot, but why? The boots of Jacob Miller and Mason Lino. The pair turned Leeds around again and again. Moreover, they kept producing repeat sets with potent kicks to the corner. Today, it was evident that Leeds missed Luke Gale’s management more than they have recently.

2. Ill-discipline kills the Rhinos

Another factor in Leeds’ demise today was their ill-discipline. For the second game in a row Leeds were down to 12 men for 20 minutes and lost the penalty count by a huge margin. The problems don’t end there for Leeds who could face a few bans ahead of next week’s huge game with Hull FC.

3. Play-off race wide open

Speaking of which, once more the play-off race is now wide open. Earlier today, Hull FC lost and the Rhinos’ defeat really opens the door for Hull KR and Castleford to catch up the Rhinos.
