Victor Radley is loving life in an England jersey having settled into Shaun Wane’s team with ease.
The Sydney Roosters man has excelled in the opening two group games, helping his father’s homeland to big wins against Samoa and France on the quest to World Cup glory.
Radley arriving in the England team will have seen him join forces with a number of recognisable players from the NRL. However, other faces from Super League wouldn’t have been quite so familiar.
Speaking on the players that have impressed him the most on BBC 5 Live’s Rugby League Podcast, Radley picked out England’s half-back partnership, but he reserved special praise for St Helens wonderkid Jack Welsby.
“I think Jack Welsby and George Williams have probably impressed me the most,” Radley said on the podcast to former England player Jon Wilkin.
He continued: “They have made it so easy for me. Them to two have really stood out. I obviously knew George from playing against him back home when he was at Canberra.
“Jack, he is a freak that kid. He is young too and he goes hard in attack, defence and everything he does is 100 percent.
“Those two have been probably the best two for me really.”
Meanwhile, for Radley, this week’s game against Greece at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane holds special meaning to him and his family.
Radley’s dad was born in Sheffield, and although he is a Sheffield Wednesday fan, he will make the trip to the UK to watch his son in what promises to be a special family occasion.
“He booked his trip and he gets here on Friday,” confirmed Radley. “He’s organised it for all his mates, I think there is 50 of them coming.
“It’s going to be really special I think. Obviously, it would have been nice if it was at Hillsborough, but everyone is coming over for it and I can’t wait to see family, friends, cousins and it will just be really special.
“I’ve met a few people in Sheffield already who have said if my grandfather Derek was still alive he would be over the moon, so it’s really big for everyone over here.”
