Vandals target Wigan Warriors’ DW Stadium ahead of home Super League clash

Wigan Warriors’ DW Stadium has been targeted once more by vandals ahead of the club’s home Super League fixture against Huddersfield Giants

Several windows have been shattered on the glass frontage to the Wigan Athletic and Wigan Warriors ground – at least the third time this has happened in recent months, Wigan Today has revealed.

The criminal damage is believed to have been inflicted at around 2pm on Tuesday February 22.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information should contact police on 101.

The stadium was hit by vandals back in November 2021 – which was the third time it had happened that year.

A stadium spokesperson said at the time: “We were disappointed that the DW Stadium was again subject to vandalism on Sunday, and we have reported the damage to the police.

“Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time the stadium has been subject to this kind of vandalism in the past 12 months, which is especially frustrating as we continue to look to invest in improvements to the stadium.”

A window was smashed in November 2020, but that wasn’t the first time it had happened as a hefty bill had to be picked up in January that year with vandals costing the club tens of thousands of pounds in repairs.

The DW Stadium was again targeted in July last year, with the venue having a bizarre target on its head.
