Leigh Leopards defeated Salford Red Devils 14-6 to make it to a Super League semi-final last night but all eyes were on winger Josh Charnley after he suffered a scary injury in the second half.
Both club owner Derek Beaumont and Charnley himself have now taken to social media to provide a positive update after the worrying incident.
Shortly after scoring the opening try to put Leigh in front, Charnley was challenging to score a second when he found himself in an awkward position. The winger seemed to flip and land on his neck which left him lying motionless in the Salford in-goal area.
Medical staff from both sides treated him before he was stretchered off to applause from all corners of the packed-out Salford Community Stadium.
It was confirmed post-game by Leigh Leopards head coach Adrian Lam that the winger was headed to hospital but was conscious, however, a further update has now been provided.
Leigh Leopards star receives ‘all-clear’ but will miss semi-final
Fans were understandably keen for updates on the health of Charnley and approaching 1:30am, owner Derek Beaumont provided the positive update that fans had been wanting.
Posting on X, Beaumont said: “Josh has been in hospital and had scans undertaken he has just been released and is okay fit and well but we will be keeping further checks on him and we have stood him down for concussion for 12 days. Our player’s health will always take precedent.”

Whilst it’s brilliant to hear that the injury is not serious, it’s also a huge blow for Leigh Leopards that Charnley now heads into HIA protocols meaning that he will be unavailable for the semi-final against either Wigan Warriors or Hull KR.
It’s also cruel for Charnley who was looking to create more history as he chases down Ryan Hall as the overall Super League top try-scorer.
The Leigh Leopards winger would then post an image of him giving a thumbs-up on his Instagram page, updating fans on his status.
He said: “Thanks for all your messages, I’m on my way home from having the all-clear. Staff at Salford royal was class. Thanks to my medical team for looking after me. Great win.”
All at Serious About Rugby League would like to wish Josh the best in his recovery over the next few days.
