Unhappy Sam Burgess says his plans have been “messed up” by Warrington

Warrington Wolves boss Sam Burgess Super League

Sam Burgess was left disappointed by Warrington Wolves and their defeat to Leigh Leopards as fans were concerned by the loss as well.

He even said that his plans have now been changed by the defeat. This came as he was asked abut the future of Leon Hayes.

Hayes was a raw bright spot but the discussion about him led Burgess to admit that he may have to course correct.

He said on Leigh Leopards’ official YouTube channel: “Yeah, I’ve got a couple of plans that I’ve made, yeah. I’ve got a few, a few of them I just messed up a bit after tonight so yeah I’ve got a couple of plans I’m not sure yet. I mean I want Leon around us as much as possible so he’s a great student of the game so the more he’s around us the better but he needs to play as well. And those type of players they must be really great to work with because he’s a bit of a squander.

“Yeah, he’s a great lad, he loves to learn. We’ve got a great bunch of guys, it’s been a really enjoyable pre-season. I think they’ll be a bit disappointed as well after tonight. As you said, it’s not the way that Joe would have liked to have celebrated his testimonial.”

This came as Burgess also paid tribute to testimonial star Joe Philbin: “He’s a great bloke, Joe. I like what he brings. He’s authentic, he’s happy, he trains hard, he does his little things well. He’s not long off an ACL recovery. So I think he’s in for a big year. And that’s a big thing to come back from him today.”

He also had his say on the new high tackle laws: “Yeah, it’s very hard to get a gauge on it. I mean, it’s just the nature of the game at the moment, isn’t it? I mean, it’s just the nature of the game at the moment, isn’t it? It’s a buzz topic, so we’re just going to try and do our best to play within the guidelines.”
