Unauthorised biography about former Great Britain coach and Dolphins boss Wayne Bennett set to be written

It would be one of the most eye-opening biographies to be written in the sport of rugby league, but could Andrew Webster’s proposed book on Wayne Bennett really go ahead?

Author and journalist, Webster, is said to be working on an ‘unauthorised’ biography on the veteran head coach Bennett.

Webster was spotted in various places around Brisbane over the weekend, conducting interviews and research for the book on the current Dolphins head coach.

Bennett this time will not be consulted, instead, Webster will take into account the views of numerous players, coaches and officials over Bennett’s long career as a player and coach.

Like Bennett himself, the book release will take place ahead of the Dolphins’ admission into the NRL as the competition’s 17th team from 2023.

Bennett was head coach of Great Britain on their ill-fated tour of Australia in 2019 and subsequently left his post to return to the NRL, but his appointment will certainly send the transfer market into a frenzy as the Dolphins will need to build a 30-man roster as well as a supporting coaching staff before taking to the field in 2023.

The Dolphins are said to have $70 million worth of assets as well as $20 million in cash reserves, making the Brisbane club one of the richest in the NRL.
