Two of Super League’s best players return for huge fixture

Round 19 of the Betfred Super League is set to be another pivotal round of action with a huge clash in the play-off race as Leeds Rhinos host Hull KR whilst two huge rivals vying for spots inside the top four meet as Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves collide.

There is another vital play-off meeting in the shape of Leigh Leopards and Salford Red Devils meeting but perhaps the biggest game of the weekend opens proceedings as Super League and World Champions St Helens host league leaders Catalans Dragons on Sky Sports.

It is a repeat of the 2021 Grand Final and it very much feels like that season with the Dragons ahead of the Saints but with the Saints quietly confident in behind the leaders.

Catalans had a wobble last week against Huddersfield Giants and need to get back on the horse.

As these two juggernauts prepare to collide the team news is now in.

Paul Wellens makes two changes to the squad that was named for that win at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, with Lewis Baxter and Tee Ritson stepping out of the team for this fixture.

Curtis Sironen could make his return to action after picking up a slight hamstring injury during the Saints’ league game at Hull FC. Dan Norman has returned following his two-week loan at Leigh Leopards, and featured in the Saints’ big Reserves win over Warrington Wolves, 22-56, this past weekend.

As for Catalans, back from suspension, Mitchell Pearce and Romain Navarrete are in the squad. Sam Tomkins is also back to face the Saints.

Arthur Mourgue, injured last weekend against Huddersfield, Matthieu Laguerre and César Rougé leave the squad.

The game kicks off at 20:00 on Thursday night and Sky Sports will be showing the game.

To many it is the Grand Final in waiting. Could we see a rematch of the 2021 decider in 2023?
