Two huge Super League games selected for TV coverage

Super League coverage

We have seen some huge games lately with a vital win for Leeds Rhinos over the Salford Red Devils, a massive Hull derby as Hull FC defeated Hull KR and of course we saw one of the results of the season as Wigan Warriors were stunned by Wakefield Trinity in a massive game in the relegation battle.

That was coupled with a defeat for Castleford Tigers against Leigh Leopards. The Leopards are riding high and chasing top spot whilst Castleford are trying to keep their head above water.

This week the story continues to develop with Leeds and Hull KR meeting in a massive game in the play-off race and Warrington Wolves taking on rivals Wigan Warriors.

The Super League season is at an integral stage and more TV coverage of the season has been confirmed.

Sky Sports have selected two Round 22 fixtures for live coverage next month – and they could be crucial matches at both ends of the Betfred Super League table.

On Saturday August 19, it’s a meeting of the teams currently occupying the top two positions, as Leigh Leopards host Catalans Dragons – in a game that will kick off as scheduled at 3pm.

That will be Leigh’s first home match for more than a month, and will give both clubs the chance to reflect on the progress they have made since they met at the same venue in the sudden-death Million Pound Match in September 2017 – when Catalans? 26-10 victory condemned Leigh to relegation.

The previous night, the Betfred Super League will return after a two-week break for the Challenge Cup Final with a Yorkshire derby between Wakefield Trinity and Castleford Tigers – when the old local rivalry could have an extra twist, as the clubs are currently separated by only two points at the bottom of the table following Wakefield’s recent revival.

That game had been scheduled for the afternoon of Sunday August 20, but has been brought forward 48 hours as one of the most anticipated matches of the round.

It could be one of the biggest games in Super League history with IMG set to change the rules around promotion and relegation.

Relegation could be detrimental to either club.
