Two huge Super League clubs face relegation under IMG

The likes of Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves, Hull KR, Hull FC, Catalans Dragons and St Helens are now all immune from relegation assuming they maintain their Grade A status.

But other clubs like Leigh Leopards and Castleford Tigers are in serious peril. They ranked 12th and 13th respectively behind the likes of Toulouse Olympique and Wakefield Trinity.

With Matt Dwyer confirming that the highest ranked 12 teams will go into Super League in 2025, it means that one of these two teams alongside London Broncos faces the very real prospect of relegation.

Dwyer also expects a lot of movement from 10th – 14th which includes Bradford Bulls.

The Vice President of IMG explained: “They can all change; and this is one of the interesting bits that we have at the moment, given that there are quite close to each other.

“The idea here is to encourage clubs to keep moving forward, so that degree of objectivity that they think they face, given that there are a whole lot of them that are very close to each other, should be real strong motivation for the clubs that are in that mix to continue their progression forward, both on the field, because performance matters, but also off the field, because that’s a large part of their scores as well.

“I think it comes back to the point that I made a bit earlier on, which is that I think a lot of the interest, at least in the short term, is going to be on those mix of clubs that are from nine to 14 or whatever they are; that’s where a lot of the interest is now.

“Really where the focus needs to be is on those five moving towards category A status, that’s the ultimate objective here. What we want to see is number eight becoming category A, number 9 becoming category A, but in that short term, there’s opportunities for people to move so there could be more than one club that goes up and down in the next season.”

Both Leigh and Castleford will no doubt be putting in the work to ensure Super League safety on and off the field.
