In a tight and titanic battle at the DW Stadium, Wigan edged Hull FC 16-14. It was a game that showed just how good the two teams are and reminded the world that they’ll both be battling for the title at the end of the year.
But how did social media see the game?
Going into the contest all eyes was on the battle of the fullbacks – Zak Hardaker and Jake Connor. The two potential England number ones have lit up the league so far this season and all were excited to see how there battle would unfold. This naturally brought about questions over who is currently the better player and everyone had their say.
Connor has a long way to go yet before he’s as good a Fullback as Hardaker.

Hardaker > Connor

Unfortunately, the battle maybe got a little bit too physical. Connor was sin binned for a head shot on Hardaker and later he gave away a decisive penalty for slapping him around the head.

Jake Connor is a great player but when he gives away stupid penalties for tapping someone on the head it really let’s him down #SLWIGHUL

One Hull fan felt Connor was unfairly treated for most of the night.
Wigan can’t hack Jake. So the ref steps in for them 🥴😬 #SLWigHul

Whilst others responded to Hardaker’s comments claiming that he’s been the best fullback over the last decade.
Best defensive full back in the world … but can’t kick a goal 🙄🙄🙄 #SLWigHul

That said some didn’t think the heavyweight clash lived up to the hype.
So, when do the two best fullbacks in superleague come on? #SLWIGHUL
— daniel handforth (@dan_handforth) April 29, 2021
Despite all the talk surrounding the fullbacks, it was halfback Jackson Hastings who claimed the man of the match and was arguably the difference. He made it known at the end of the game he wanted to play for England and many believe he should be a part of Shaun Wane’s World Cup squad.
Hastings is playing that well I’d have him pencilled in the Australian squad, never mind the England squad!
— Andy Grundy (@AndyGrundy10) April 29, 2021
Richard Agar says Jackson Hastings is one of the best players in Super League, Danny McGuire says Hastings is one of the best three best players in the comp. But he’s not in the 35 best England eligible players available…
— John Davidson (@johnnyddavidson) April 29, 2021
@SkySportsRL if Jackson Hastings is eligible then he should be playing for England end of discussion surely, he’d be the first name on the team sheet for me he is an outstanding player!

His young halfback partner Harry Smith also impressed carving open the Hull defence on a number of occasions.
Harry Smith is so bloody good

Harry Smith is going to be dynamite in a few years. Really like the look of him.

Unfortunately the game was sullied by an alleged racist comment from Tony Clubb. Unsurprisingly Twitter had its say.
Trial by social media as per re the Clubb ALLEGED racist remarks. He’s apparently already guilty according to Twitter. He may well be, but let the investigation take place first.
— ℕ𝕚𝕔𝕜 𝕆𝕨𝕖𝕟 (@nickofwigan) April 29, 2021
If there is evidence that says Clubb has racially abused Saveilo then he should be sacked and banned!
But I'm worried that the league will ban him regardless as they won't want to be seen to do nothing over an allegation.
— Jonathan S (@JNJS1990) April 29, 2021
Tony Clubb should be absolutely ashamed of himself, embarrassment to yourself, your club and rugby as a whole. No room for racism whatsoever in any walk of life, and I hope @TheRFL give him the right punishment.
