Tributes pour in for Bryn Hargreaves

After being missing for 14 months, the body of former Super League player Bryn Hargreaves has been found.

A little over a year ago, Hargreaves went missing in America with his apartment door found open.

There was a police investigation and plenty of civilian support to try and find him.

The family even set up a Go Fund Me page which saw the rugby league community band together as it always does to try and help.

After 14 months, Hargreaves body has been found as confirmed by his brother on Facebook.

What happened to him still remains a mystery.

“RIP Bryn Hargreaves,” his brother stated.

“With incredible sadness I can confirm after 14 months we have finally found Bryn.

“We still do not know the cause of death or what actually happened on 3/1/22.

“Thanks to all those that have helped in the search.

“We would appreciate a little space and will keep you updated when we have any further information.”

Hargreaves started his career with Wigan Warriors where he made 28 appearances.

He also enjoyed a loan move at Leigh prior to joining St Helens in 2007. He played in the 2008 and 2009 Grand Final defeats to Leeds Rhinos as well as the World Club Challenge triumph over Brisbane Broncos in 2o07.

He was also a Wales international. He finished his career at Bradford Bulls in 2012 at the age of just 27.

Following the news, St Helens made the following statement:

Bryn joined the Red V from the 2007 season, making his debut away at Huddersfield on 4th February off the interchange bench.

Over his four seasons with the club, he would make 115 appearances, playing in our victories over Brisbane Broncos in the 2007 World Club Challenge, and Hull FC at Wembley in the 2008 Challenge Cup Final.

A fan favourite, Bryn was a popular player with supporters and teammates alike.

The Club would like to send our most heartfelt thoughts to his family and friends at this sad time.

Chairman of St Helens R.F.C. paid tribute to Bryn saying: “It is with great sadness that we hear of the death of our former player Bryn Hargreaves.

“Our thoughts and prayers are very much with his family at this incredibly difficult time. They have also had to deal with a prolonged period of stress prior this awful news.

“Bryn was extremely well liked and respected by his team mates and by all involved with the club during his four seasons with us from 2007 to 2010.

“He was very much part of the great Saints team of that era and was a World Club Challenge winner in 2007 and a Challenge Cup winner in 2008.

“It is a real tragedy that he has died at such a young age. He will be remembered with genuine warmth and with affection by us all.”
