Toulouse Olympique’s Guy Armitage opens up on horror fractured larynx

One of the French club’s bright sparks this season is new signing Guy Armitage, who joined Toulouse initially on a trial deal last season after going to France to play in the suspended Elite 2 Championship season.

He started his career in rugby union, playing for Wasps, London Irish, London Welsh and Toulon, before switching codes to join London Broncos.

Since signing a deal with Toulouse, Armitage has become one of Sylvain Houles’ most trusted members of the squad and has been in superb form at the start of the 2022 campaign.

However, it was confirmed in Toulouse’s loss to Catalans Dragons that the 30-year-old suffered a fractured larynx against and was expected to be out for around two months in a bitter blow.

Toulouse have won just two games all year which came against St Helens and Wakefield Trinity, but they have pushed all their opponents close in what has been a baptism of fire for the newly-promoted side.

And, now Armitage has opened up on the injury.

“I knew I got hit, my voice dropped,” Armitage told the Trot The Egg In podcast.

“I just thought it was bruised but it is a serious thing – I played the rest of the game and the end of it I could breathe and so didn’t think it was too bad.

“I just want to play. I’m still feeling good, with my throat I can’t train fully because I can’t have contact with my throat, but it will be only six weeks.”
