Toulouse Olympique have released a statement following their promotion back to Super League. The French club, who won the Championship Grand Final earlier this month, have been selected alongside York Knights to step back up to the top flight by an independent panel.
As such, after spending one season in Super League back in 2022, Sylvain Houles’ side return to the competition for 2026 and they’ll be keen to establish themselves there. Of course, they’ll be one of two French teams in Super League next year alongside Catalans Dragons, and together the pair will strive to build the sport in the south of France and the nation as a whole.
However, Toulouse are keen to take the opportunity they have been given to consolidate themselves permanently as one of the Northern Hemisphere’s strongest clubs and make their presence felt at the top tier.
A statement released on the club website read: “The TO XIII now intends to consolidate its foundations, strengthen its local roots and assert itself at the highest European level.
“This promotion is not an end in itself, but a new beginning – that of a club that wants to last, structure itself and promote rugby league.
“This success reflects the vitality of Toulouse sport and the progress of French rugby league. The club is approaching this new stage with the desire to establish itself permanently at the highest level.
“Toulouse Olympique thanks the Rugby Football League, its institutional and private partners, its supporters and all those who, season after season, have believed in this project with loyalty, confidence and passion.
“It is thanks to them that this collective success has become possible.”
Olivier Dubois, club president, added: “This accession is much more than a sporting victory. It is the culmination of a collective project, built on perseverance, rigor and passion.
“Toulouse Olympique joins the Super League with humility and ambition, ready to fly the flag for our city and French rugby league.”
