Toulouse Olympique head coach Sylvain Houles reveals why his side ‘deserved’ the win against Hull KR

Hull KR took on Toulouse Olympique tonight at Craven Park live on Sky Sports.

Hull KR started the brightest of the two sides with Elliot Minchella crossing the whitewash first before the French side slowly clawed their way back into the game.

Matty Russell and Daniel Alvaro crossed before the half-time break to send Toulouse into a 12-6 lead.

And, Latrell Schaumkel dotted down following the resumption to make it 16-6.

Ethan Ryan managed to dot down from a superb Rowan Milnes kick to bring the home side back to within six and Frankie Halton eventually brought them level with a scintillating score after a brilliant break by Shaun Kenny-Dowall.

The momentum was firmly with the hosts, now, and Milnes was able to cross with five minutes to go from a scrum to strike a dagger into the hearts of Toulouse.

“I am hugely disappointed, I am very sad for the boys. They worked hard but I think we deserved the two points.

“There’s not much honour in there, we needed a win. The boys dug very deep. We probably could have killed the game, a couple of big mistakes cost us.

“I couldn’t be more prouder of them. They gave everything out there and it’s a credit to them.

“We’ve been rallying for the past few months so we will not have a dying attitude and we will never give up.”

Houles was also keen to stress how difficult the task has been to stay in Super League in 2022.

“We’ve had adversity from the beginning and it hasn’t been easy.

“Recruitment is not easy when you don’t have your group at the beginning. I thought everyone in this club are very passionate about and want to fight about it.”

Toulouse will travel to the Warrington Wolves next week for a relegation four-pointer.
