Toulouse make bid for Super League 2021 as 12-team competition confirmed

Toulouse Olympique have confirmed they will apply to enter Super League in 2021.

Toronto Wolfpack were voted out of the competition on Monday afternoon and following a meeting today, clubs have agreed their should be a 12th team in Super League next season.

A decision on who this will be is expected to be made by the governing bodies in the coming weeks as applications come in from Championship clubs.

Featherstone Rovers, who lost to Toronto in last year’s Million Pound Game, declared their interest earlier today via a statement from chairman Mark Campbell.

Toulouse will be another major contender having enjoyed an excellent period since rejoining the RFL ranks in 2016.

The French outfit have competed at the top of the second tier for the last few seasons and were predicted to mount a serious challenge for Super League before the competition was curtailed.

However, they might now achieve top flight status without playing another game after the club confirmed their intentions of filling the vacancy left by the Wolfpack.

“Further to the double announcement that Toronto will not be in Super League in 2021 and that the competition will have 12 clubs, the Toulouse Olympique XIII will apply to enter the competition next season.
