Rugby Union players are the flavour of the month. Less than a week after Leeds Rhinos announced the signing of former England Rugby Union international Kyle Eastmond, Toulouse have followed suit handing a trial to Guy Armitage.
The French club announced that Armitage would begin a trial at Toulouse from today until the end of the month.
The younger brother of England winger Delon, Armitage is already familiar with the 13 man code. He featured for London Broncos in 2019 and looked set to remain in the capital for the foreseeable future. However, the pandemic foiled his plans.
More back luck befell the outside back when his contract with Ottawa Aces for 2021 was terminated following the postponement of their arrival in League 1.
But he’s been given a chance to return to Rugby League this season thanks to Toulouse. With the Championship season creeping ever close the French outfit have handed him a trial looking to add further depth to an already impressive squad which includes new recruit and former Grand Final winner Mitch Garbutt.
Armitage will bring Toulouse vast experience having played for a host of Rugby Union clubs including an impressive stay at London Welsh where he made over 20 appearances in the space of one season before moving to London Wasps.
Capable of playing on the wing and at centre he could very well become a vital asset to Toulouse this season as they push for promotion.
They begin their Championship campaign against York City Knights on April 3rd. Like Toulouse, York are highly fancied this season so it should be a superb game to begin the 2021 Championship.
