Toronto make long-awaited return to rugby league action

Toronto Wolfpack’s fall from grace during the back end of the 2020 Super League season is one that will have repercussions for rugby league for many years

However, with the Canadian club preparing to join the North American Rugby League competition upon its inaugural season next year, the Wolfpack previously launched a new initiative in a bid to get new players.

Open tryouts were conducted as the Wolfpack geared up for the Canada Cup Final against DC Cavalry – a fixture that is a mainstay in the North American continent.

Toronto ran out eventual winners, with an impressive 42-6 result in front of a crowd of 1,500 excited onlookers.

Of course, that attendance figure pales into insignificance when considering that in the heyday of the Wolfpack, they were filling Lamport Stadium.

Some fans were disappointed at an announcement three days ago that COVID-19 regulations enforced by other Toronto sports teams would not apply at the home of the Wolfpack, but the Canadian club reneged on that decision due to the hostility from supporters.
