Tony Smith lays down marker with Hull FC star and has him “fired up” for new season

Kane Evans was a major signing for Hull FC going into 2022 but it was a difficult season for the big prop due to suspensions and the like.

He is now set to be a part of a new era at the MKM Stadium under now boss Tony Smith.

Smith has been a success everywhere he has been: Huddersfield Giants, Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves and Hull KR.

Now he is trying to do the same at Hull FC in 2023 and beyond and he has told Evans what he expects from him moving forward.

“When I first caught up with Tony, he gave me a run down on his expectations of an overseas player in Super League and he said that being good is not enough – I need to be great,” Evans said the club website.

“You have to be great in every area and you have to do your best to lead the team.

“It was an eye-opening conversation but I really appreciated the honesty and expectation, and it’s motivated me – it’s fired me up. It’s good to hear that from the coach.”

So, Evans is fired up and Smith has laid down a marker. Exactly what you’d expect from the club and it could very well lead to huge success for the club in 2023 and beyond.
