Tony Gigot leaves Toulouse Olympique ahead of potential Super League move

Toulouse Olympique have announced the departure of French livewire Tony Gigot.

A Lance Todd Trophy winner with the Catalans Dragons in 2018, Gigot was captain for Toulouse in the 2022 Super League season.

However, he has departed following their relegation from Super League, news that is likely to disappoint many at the club who would have been hoping to keep their main man.

Gigot was instrumental in some of Toulouse’s wins this season, and his presence would have undoubtedly given them a major chance at earning promotion straight back to the top-flight in the Championship next season.

However, the 31-year-old will depart and will likely attract interest from a number of clubs in Super League.

Prior to signing for Toulouse, Gigot had a spell at Avignon in 2021 following a brief stint at Wakefield Trinity where he played seven games for the West Yorkshire club.

Among Gigot’s other previous clubs are the Toronto Wolfpack, London Broncos and Cronulla Sharks – though he failed to make a single appearance in the NRL for the latter.

Being a free agent is something Gigot has experienced before and having previously taken his time to land on a club when in this position, it will be interesting to see where he ends up this time around.
