Tony Clubb opens up on relationship with Adrian Lam

Tony Clubb and Adrian Lam will both be part of the Leigh Centurions revolution heading into the 2022 Championship season.

And, after spending three years playing under Lam at Leigh, Clubb is excited to rekindle that relationship alongside each other in 2022.

During their time together, the duo won the League Leaders’ Shield in 2020 and made it to the Super League Grand Final, but Clubb knew that the 2021 season would be his last.

“I got on with Adrian really well at Wigan, probably from the start we got on well and had a good friendship on and off the field,” Clubb told Leigh Centurions TV.

“More towards the back end of my career I knew I could be honest with him.

“I couldn’t keep up with the game, I was having a lot of injections at the time and knew I could sit down with him.

“I spoke to him and said I’m going to retire.

“If I’m not going to be 100% I don’t want to do it but there were times at the back end where I had to for short spells.

“My body was creaking and I knew it was my time, but I was glad that was he there and he said some nice things back to me.”

Now, the duo will be tasked with ensuring the Centurions make it back to the top flight after a season back in the second tier.
